천호(이경영)와 함께 고아원에서 자란 지수(김명수)는 최장로에게 입양되어 지혜(옥소리)를 사랑하지만 계부인 최장로의 반대에 부딪쳐 방황하던 중 우발적인 살인을 저질렀다. 출감한 지수는 최장로에게 지혜에 대한 변함 없는 사랑을 말하지만 최장로는 받아들이지 않는다. 최장로의 바람대로 목사가 되기로 결심한 지수는 집을 떠나 서울로 향한다. 그러나 최장로는 지수가 없는 사이 지혜를 민사장의 아들 성규와 결혼시키려고 한다. 이를 따를 수 없는 지혜는 서울에서 내려온 지수와 결혼식을 올리고 첫날밤을 보낸다. 뒤늦게 사실을 알게 된 최장로는 충격으로 죽고 윤목사가 나타나 두 사람이 이복 남매라는 사실을 알려준다. 충격을 받은 지혜는 집을 나가고 지수만이 농장에서 지혜를 기다린다. 천호는 아버지가 남긴 하모니카를 가지고 전도생활을 하면서 아버지를 찾고 한편으로 지혜를 찾아 다닌다.

Dal-Rae's ghost tries to protect her youngest brother Do-Seon from Seo-Mo's intrigue. When Do-Seon was on the verge of being killed, Do-Wun who won the first place in the state examination saves his brother. While Seo-Mo and her evil group gets killed accused of their horrible atrocities, Do-Wun goes to Han Yang with his brother, asking Cheong-Am, his teacher and a great Buddhist monk, to pray for Dal-Rae's soul.

Natasha, an officer at the Soviet Embassy in North Korea, is in love with Seok-bong. But Seok-bong has already planned his wedding with Bok-hui. Natasha grows jealous and threatens Bok-hui to leave somewhere else. Meanwhile Bok-hui's brother, Tae-yeong, is executed after participating in an anti-communist march. Seok-bong is accused of taking a part in the march. Seok-bong starts to feel pessimistic about his communist belief. He tries an escape to the South, but he is captured by the authority and executed.

A scamp Sang-hyeon who has crush on Hui-jeong shadows her to her house. He sneaks into her home and is surprised by a ghost. He stabbs the ghost who turns out Hui-jeong's mother. Hui-jeong gets married to Yeong-min and lives together with her father who has nobody to turn to. But Yeong-min's mother hates her daughter-in-law and mistreats her. She in the end kills Hui-jeong's father and attempts to kill Hui-jeong. Her dead mother appears to save Hui-jeong from the wicked mother-in-law.

1944년 1월, 일본 명고옥(名古屋, 나고야)에 있는 수송부대에 한국인 학생들이 학병으로 입대한다. 그 중에는 총독에게 대들어 요주의 인물이 된 아로운(김운하)과 리노이에(이상사)가 있다. 고참병 모리(이예춘)는 아로운에게 똥이 묻은 군화 밑창을 핥게 하거나 개처럼 소리내고 행동하라고 하는 등 횡포를 부리고 인간 이하로 취급한다. 일본인들은 “일본 군대 50년의 전통”을 강조하며 그들을 학대하지만 아로운과 리노이에는 그런 전통을 비웃는다. 아로운은 우연히 일본 여인 히데꼬(공미도리)를 알게 되어 사랑에 빠진다. 그는 휴가 중에 혹은 근무 중에 틈틈이 히데꼬를 만나는데, 군대에서 당한 일들을 얘기하면서 히데꼬의 위로를 받는다. 히데꼬의 어머니(주증녀)는 그들의 관계를 극구 반대하지만, 둘은 냉수를 떠놓고 결혼식을 올린다. 미군의 대공습 직전에 탈영한 아로운은 폭격이 쏟아지는 거리를 방황한다. 부대와 도시가 초토화된 뒤, 일본군들은 국가비밀이라며 유가족들이 시체를 못보게 금지하고 집단화장을 한다. 사람들은 분노하면서 시체들에 불이 붙는 것을 지켜보는데, 이때 아로운이 시체들 사이에서 걸어 나오고 히데꼬와 다시 만난다.

Mr. Park raises his children by repairing charcoal pits. Although ignorant and stubborn, Mr. Park has a good heart. He is displeased, however, with his eldest daughter, Yong-sun (Jo Mi-ryeong), because of her close relationship with Jae-cheon (Hwang hae), who is a scamp in his eyes. He is also unsatisfied with his second daughter, Myeong-sun (Eom Aeng-ran), for liking Ju-sik (Bang Su-il). Only his eldest son, Yong-beom (Kim Jin-gyu), is the apple of his eye, as he approves of his son's wife, Jeom-rye (Kim Hye-jeong). When Yong-beom is sent to a foreign branch office, Mr. Park is against it at first but approves of it, as he knows what it means for his son's future. Eventually, too, he begins to approve of his two daughters' relationships.

콧대높은 처녀사장은 어느날 공중전화 박스에서 한 청년에게 봉변을 당한다. 그후, 공교롭게도 신입사원 모집에 그 청년이 응모, 여사장은 전일의 앙심을 먹고 그 청년을 입사시킨다. 그랬지만 청년은 번번히 여사장의 고집을 꺾고 마침내는 그녀로 하여금 무릎을 꿇게 한다. 양처럼 순해진 여사장은 청년과 결혼한 후 회사의 모든 대권을 그에게 물려 주고 가정에 들어 앉는다.

일제의 식민지 정책에 반기를 들고 봉기한 광주학생사건을 중심으로 엮은 항일학생운동사. 독립지사의 아들 상훈은 뜻맞는 교우와 더불어 항일독립운동체인 성진회의 멤버인데 이들의 정신적인 지주는 한문선생 송운인이다. 어느 날 이 성진회에 오빠가 고등계형사인 영애도 가담한다. 그 뒤 여러 가지 사건이 일어난 뒤 거사하기로 결정한 날 밤, 형사에게 발각되어 영애가 오해를 받으나 죽음을 무릅쓴 영애의 행동으로 동지들은 피하게 되고 다음날 아침 광주의 학생들은 모두 봉기한다.

망국의 기운이 감도는 구한말. 이토오 히로부미와 친일 대신의 압력에 의해 을사조약이 체결된 지 얼마 후, 헤이그 밀사 사건을 빌미로 일제는 고종황제의 퇴위를 강요한다. 삼흥학교에서 인재양성을 하던 안중근은 안창호의 연설을 듣고 의병운동에 참가할 것을 결심하고 연해주로 간다. 그는 한국의병 참모중장, 만주원정군 사령관으로서 동지들과 함께 일본군에 대항해 독립운동을 벌인다. 안중근과 동지들은 이토오 히로부미가 북만주를 시찰할 것이란 소식을 듣고 하얼빈역에서의 저격을 계획한다. 거사는 성공하지만 안중근과 동지들은 투옥된다. 그는 법정에서도 조선의 독립운동의 정당성을 주장하며 일제에 항거하다 사형당한다.
