헬레나의 가족은 재정적으로 어려운 서커스를 어렵사리 운영하고 있다. 어느날 엄마 조안이 쓰러지고 서커스는 존폐의 위기에 처한다. 조안이 중요한 수술을 받던 날 밤 헬레나는 모두 가면을 쓰고 이상한 생명체로 가득한 새로운 차원의 세상으로 빠져든다. 그곳에서 만난 발렌타인의 도움으로 자신을 쫓던 기괴한 그림자로부터 간신히 탈출한다. 이 모든 것은 빛의 도시와 어둠의 도시 사이에 균형이 한 소녀의 개입으로 깨지면서 빛의 도시를 지배하던 여왕이 잠들게 되고 이 틈을 타 어둠의 도시를 지배하는 그림자가 빛의 도시를 침략하면서 생긴 일이었다. 결국 헬레나는 발렌타인과 함께 빛의 도시를 구원할 유일한 마법 미러 마스크를 찾아 위험한 모험을 시작하는데...
