As coined by Dogtown & Z-Boys, Skateboarder magazine was the original Bible of skateboarding and the history it captured in its pages tell the story of modern skateboarding’s roots and influenced an entire generation of skateboarders. This documentary tells the story of how this magazine became THE magazine of skateboarders worldwide, why it meant so much to them, and how it left an indelible mark on them during it’s meteoric rise and fall by the early 1980s. From shoeless surfers riding the concrete waves and the vast blacktop of Southern California, to fully padded sessions at skateparks, Skateboarder exposed the sport to kids around the world.

The Body Corporate made by Anti-Hero skateboards. That wasn’t the original title we had in mind. We were pushing for “Reality Breakdown”. But things changed along the way. The video itself came out a lot different than the video we thought we were making, and that’s not a bad thing. This is the video we came back from New Zealand with. It morphed from wanting to tell a story about skating being an act of defiance, a path away from the status quo & spoon fed commercialism & all that lazy stuff, to being the story of what drew these guys to skateboarding & why it sticks so strongly with some of us. In the end it still speaks to those other ideas, though not said out-loud. These guys poured their hearts into this thing & we couldn’t be more stoked on how it came out. We hope you dig it.
Evan Snow
Evan Snow, a forty year-old watchmaker, spends his hours working from his run down home in the Hollywood Hills. His three children; Velvet, Cassius, and Azalea exist around him as they reel from the loss of their mother who is never mentioned in the film. To bury his own pain, Evan takes to sleeping with young women, and vacillates between extremely affectionate behavior toward his children and blatant neglect. After bearing witness to a particularly stinging example of their father’s womanizing with a girl named Sarah who arrives as a potential client to Evan, the children decide take matters into their own hands and rid the Snow house of Sarah and any other women that threaten to alter their peculiar yet functional family dynamic.
