소말리아 인근 아덴만 해상에서 러시아 대형 유조선이 해적에게 납치당한 사상 최악의 사건. 유조선을 장악한 해적들은 선원들을 인질로 잡아 몸값을 요구하고, 정찰을 나온 해군부대가 이 사실을 알아차리면서 사태는 일촉즉발로 흘러간다.

A young woman (Nastya) arrives in Moscow to study at the Conservatory and thinks her sister (Alya) will help her with a place to stay. Her sister, however, can only offer her to live in the hospital, where her son is waiting for a kidney transplant. Meanwhile, the only source of money for them is a rich family, more exactly Dmitri, a football related "businessman", for whom Alya has been working as a cleaning lady. Then comes the romance between Nastya and Dmitri, but...

The action of the movie is set in the late 11th century Constantinople during the time of the 1st Crusade. The crusaders need the help of the emperor Alexius to get to Jerusalem while the latter tries to do his best to get rid of the unwelcome guests. At the same time Caesar Nicephorus plays his own game and betrays his royal fiancée Anna Comnena while trying to win the heart of the beautiful countess Brigitta.
