1943년 10월 필라델피아만에서 미해군 과학자 제임스 롱스트리트 박사는 적 레이더 교환 실험을 전개한다. 강한 자기장을 만들어 레이더에 이쪽 함정이 나타나지 않게 하는 장치다. 그러나 실험 결과 레이더상으로는 물론 실물 그 자체가 지상에서 감쪽같이 사라져버리는 이변이 일어난다. 막강한 전자 에너지로 인해 해군 함정이 4차원공간으로 날아가 버린다.
