Going To California is a concert performance video by the British pop group Tears For Fears. Released in 1990, it is a recording of the band's show at the Santa Barbara County Bowl in May 1990 during their "Seeds Of Love" World Tour.

안정적이지만 남편에게서 사랑을 느끼지 못하는 평범한 주부 로버타(로잔느 아퀘트 분)은 신문의 광고란에서 "애타게 수잔을 찾습니다"라는 광고를 보고 관심을 갖게 된다. 로버타는 수잔(마돈나 분)이 어떤 사람인가를 보기 위해 항구로 가서 수잔과 남자친구의 짐을 본다. 로버타는 한동안 수잔을 미행하고 수잔이 가게에서 구두와 바꾼 잠바를 산다. 그런데 잠바에는 열쇠가 들어있었고, 로버타는 열쇠를 건네주겠다며 수잔에게 만나자는 광고를 낸다. 수잔을 만나기 위해 공원에 도착한 로버타는 잠바 때문에 수잔으로 오해를 받아 갱들에게 공격을 당하고, 정신을 잃는다. 짐의 친구 데즈(에이단 퀸 분) 역시 로버타를 수잔으로 착각하고, 기억을 잃은 로버타는 자신이 수잔이라고 생각하게 된다. 이후 수잔을 가방을 찾고, 로버타의 남편 게리는 로버타를 찾고, 짐은 수잔을 찾고, 악당은 귀걸이를 찾고, 로버타는 자아를 찾는 과정이 복잡하게 펼쳐진다.

세상에서 가장 평화로웠던 혁명이 끝나고 10년 후 뉴욕. 집권 여당인 사회당은 느릿느릿 진행되는 개혁에 박차를 가하기 위해 사람들에게 굳게 단결할 것을 요구한다. 한편, 여성단체는 이러한 요구에 불만이 많다. 늘어나는 거리폭력과 강간사태를 막기 위해 자경단이 조직되고, "여성의 군대"라는 활동 단체는 여성의 실직에 반대하는 투쟁을 지지하고 나선다. 그 과정에서 여성 문제에 대한 홍보가 필요함을 느낀 여성의 군대는 두 개의 언더그라운드 라디오 방송국에 접근한다. 감시와 체포가 빈번하게 행해지며 극이 클라이 맥스를 향해 갈수록 서로 뭉칠 수 없는 듯 보이던 여성단체들이 공통된 목적을 위해 함께하기 시작한다. Beauty Becomes the Beast describes a random access world mediated by TV images and shards of popular culture. The film features a powerful performance by Lydia Lunch regressing from adulthood to childhood, hinting at a sexually abusive past. It concerns itself with the position of woman as subject and the way women experience patriarchal law and the heterosexual order.

This experimental short consists of eight unedited rolls of super-8 film, each of which profiles an individual woman in real time. The women engage in everyday behaviour, such as playing pinball or reading a letter aloud.
