알라스카 카츠뷰의 마을 도서관에 크쥬베(Kotzebue: K.D. 랭 분)라는 청년이 도서관 서기 로즈위타(Roswitha: 로젤 제크 분)를 찾아온다. 그는 남자의 모습을 하고 있어서 모두들 당연히 그가 남자라고 여기지만 실제로는 여자이다. 에스키모 관습에 따라 원주민과 서구인의 혼혈로 태어난 크쥬베와 아픔을 안고 독일을 떠나온 로즈워타의 사랑. 크쥬베는 에스키모 관습에 따라 마을을 찾아온 서구인과 원주민 어머니의 동침을 통해 태어난 과거를 갖고 있다. 어릴 때 자기를 버린 생모를 찾아 로즈위타에게 도움을 청하러 온 크쥬베. 하지만 로즈위타 역시 아픈 과거를 갖고 마음의 문을 닫은 채 세상을 살고 있다. 로즈위타는 크쥬베에게 강한 거부감을 느낀다. 여성도 남성도 아닌 크쥬베에 관해 다가가고 싶은 마음이 생기지 않는 것이다. 크쥬베는 로즈위타의 아픈 과거에 연민을 느껴 그녀의 고향인 독일로 떠나게 된다. 그곳에서 로즈위타는 20년간의 응어리를 풀 수 있게 되고 로즈위타와 크쥬베는 진정한 우정과 사랑을 느끼게 된다. 그리고 둘은 알라스카로 돌아와서 크쥬베의 생부를 찾아나선다.

In a rundown area of Buenos Aires, at the dawn of the 1980s, Adrian LeDuc owns both a struggling movie theater and a shabby apartment building filled with eccentric, squabbling tenants.
