An old house stands amongst newly built buildings, as if it has been left behind. Tamako, a popular fortune teller, has been living there alone with her son, Tadao, for years. Because he has intellectual disability and autism, their neighbors often complain about his unpredictable behaviors. One day, Tamako is informed that a room is available in a group home owned by a company that runs the community workshop Tadao works at. Residents there all have intellectual disability but are living together to be independent from their families. Tamako decides to let Tadao move into the group home, but the sudden change of environment confuses him.

치히로는 삶에 대한 의지가 나날이 희박해져 가는 마음의 병을 앓고 있다. 그는 계속해서 죽음을 염두하고 있으며 그러한 죽음에의 의지를 주변 사람들에게 아무 거리낌 없이 알림으로써 주변 사람 모두를 불안에 휩싸이게 한다. 유리와 치히로 부부는 치히로의 여동생 쿠미가 살고 있는 발리로 여행을 오고, 유리는 발리 여행을 계기로 치히로의 증상이 나아지기를 기대한다. 그러나 발리를 여행하는 동안 발리는 두 사람에게 있어 치유의 섬이 아니라 치히로의 증상이 좀 더 악화됨과 동시에 유리와 치히로의 사이를 최악으로 만드는, 고통의 섬이 된다. 그러는 사이 유리는 낯선 남자와 새로운 열망에 빠져들고 쿠미는 출산이라는 일생일대의 이벤트를 겪게 된다. 치히로와 유리, 그리고 쿠미가 결국 발리에서 확인하게 되는 것은 그들의 각기 다른 욕망을 역시 각기 다른 방식으로만 추구할 수 있다는 거리감일 뿐이다. 영화는 이제 인물들 사이에 남아 있는 것은 소통의 가능성이 아니라 단지 불화의 가능성만인 것은 아닌지 질문하고 있다. Kyoto in April. A timid and shy student, Watabe, is struggling to make friends and spending lonely days in a university. Concurrently, student life for Satomi Kumahori has also been hard, due to her overweight appearance. For Satomi, it is only Watabe who talks to her kindly and does not make fun of her. One day she takes advantage of Watabe and starts to live off him, literally like a parasite. While Satomi is using him as a slave, he falls in love with Nako, a girl he meets at work. At the same time, he accidentally learns about Satomi's past.
