스포츠 신문기자로 바쁜 생활을 하던 미치(Mitch Albom: 행크 아자리아 분)는 어느날 우연히 TV에서 자신의 옛 은사인 모리(Morrie Schwartz: 잭 레몬 분)가 루게릭병으로 투병 중이라는 것을 알게 되고, 대학 졸업 후 처음으로 그를 찾아간다. 10여 년의 세월이 흐른 뒤 다시 만났지만 미치와 모리는 묘한 공감대를 형성하게 된다. 모리를 만나면서부터 미치는 자신의 각박한 생활을 새로운 시각으로 바라보게 되고 급기야는 자신의 일을 뒤로한 채 매주 화요일이면 모리를 찾아가 그로부터 인생의 의미에 대해서 배우게 된다. 그 과정에서 미치는 자신의 바쁘고 지친 삶에 회의를 느끼게 되고, 자신의 삶을 되돌아보며 재닌과의 서먹해진 관계도 복원한다. 결국 모리는 루게릭병으로 죽으면서 이들의 마지막 수업은 끝나지만, 미치는 영원히 잊지 못할 삶의 교훈을 얻는다.
