1990년대 영국의 브릿팝 전성기에 A&R (아티스트 앤 레퍼토리)들은 서로 경쟁하며 실력 있는 뮤지션을 영입하여 히트 앨범을 먼저 만들어 남보다 높은 자리에 오르려고 한다. 유명 음반 회사에서 A&R로 일하는 스티븐 스텔폭스(니콜라스 홀트) 역시 헤드 A&R이 되기 위해 수단과 방법을 가리지 않는다. 그런데 자신보다 못한 스티븐의 친구 로저(제임스 코든)가 헤드 A&R이 되자 울분을 참지 못한 스티븐은 로저를 살해하고 만다. 아무렇지 않게 회사에서 일을 하던 스티븐에게 어느 날 우드 햄이라는 형사가 찾아오고 비서 레베카까지 점점 스티븐의 목을 조여오는데....
