아내와 두 아들만을 생각하는 긍정적이고 평범한 가장 러스티. 하지만 아내는 일상을 지루해 하고, 두 아들은 음담패설을 일삼으며 언제나 싸우기만 한다. 어릴 적 아버지와 함께 갔던 월리 월드에 대한 추억에 젖어 있던 러스티는 아내와 두 아들에게 미국에서 가장 인기 있는 놀이공원 월리 월드로 가는 미 대륙 횡단 여행을 제안한다. 자신이 어릴 때 아버지가 했던 것처럼, 모두 함께 차에 올라타 도로 위를 달리기 시작하는 그리스올드 가족. 하지만 재미있고 순탄한 여행이 되리라는 기대와는 달리 사건 사고가 터지고 만다.
