가족들과 이집트 여행을 온 ‘잭’은 똑 부러지는 딸 ‘앰버’, 그리고 게임에만 빠져 사는 막내 '’딜런’을 챙기기 바쁘다. 일 때문에 바쁜 아내 ‘다이앤’과 만나기 위해, 호텔로 돌아온 세 가족은 즐겁게 식사를 하려 하지만, 갑자기 닥친 지진 때문에 모든 것이 엉망이 된다. ‘잭’의 가족은 피라미드 관광 중 만난 '타리크'에게서 이상 기후 변화가 있을 것이라는 사실을 듣는다. 아라비아 반도가 움직이면서 해저 속 마그마가 바닷물과 만나게 되고, 그로 인한 증기가 구름 사이로 퍼지며 불안정 저기압 세력을 키워, 기후 변화를 일어날 것. 해가 지면 지역이 영하로 떨어지게 될 것을 알게 된 잭의 가족은 서둘러 본국으로 돌아가려고 하지만 쏟아지는 눈 때문에 비행기는 뜰 수 조차 없게 된다. ‘타리크’ 덕에 대피하는 비행기를 타게 되지만 이마저도 폭풍 때문에 불시착하게 되고, 눈으로 뒤덮인 피라미드와 엄청난 크기의 우박을 만나는 등 목숨이 위태로운 여정을 이어가는데… 그들은 과연 무사히 구출될 수 있을까?
