Shinko Terasawa was always considered to be the odd ball of the bunch. At a time when romance was against school regulations, Shinko was the first to take a bite out of the forbidden fruit. Expelled from her former school, she finds herself in an all-girls school in Jokamachi, where rumors fly. One day, Shinko delivers an anonymous love letter addressed to her English teacher, Ms. Shimazaki. Convinced that the students are playing a prank, Ms. Shimazaki is adamant about getting to the bottom of this "problem”.

츠지마 섬의 해안경비대는 각종 밀수꾼과 밀입국자들을 단속하느라 편히 쉴 날이 없다. 어느 날 경찰학교를 갓 졸업한 요스케가 해안경비대에 부임을 받아 자신의 고향이기도 한 츠지마 섬으로 찾아온다. 그는 기대와 희망에 부풀어 있지만 자신의 형이 이곳에서 밀수꾼으로 활동 중이란 사실을 알고 고뇌에 빠진다.

일본 사회의 어두운 실상을 생생하게 드러내는 사회파 추리극. 교도소 간수인 다몬은 죄수들을 호송하는 임무를 담당하고 있다. 평소처럼 죄수들을 태운 버스를 타고 이동하던 중, 저격총을 든 무리들이 호송차를 습격해 죄수들이 사망하는 사건이 발생한다. 다몬은 다행히 목숨을 건지지만 6개월 정직을 당하고, 자신의 힘으로 이 사건을 조사하기로 한다.

Roppeita is big in size, clumsy and full of energy. When his grandfather orders him to move out to Tokyo to save a sinking milk delivery business a distant relative of his runs, he encounters the most strangest of clientele.

식모살이를 하던 큰딸 몽이 임신을 하고 돌아오자, 아버지는 크게 언짢아 한다. 오빠 이노키치까지 홀몸이 아닌 그녀를 심하게 구박하자, 이를 견디지 못한 몽은 집을 나간다. 한편, 언니의 도움으로 간호학교에 다니던 상은 애인과의 결혼을 서두르지만 마음대로 되지 않는다.

관광버스 안내원을 하는 키요코의 가족은 도쿄의 서민 동네에 살고 있다. 오빠와 두 언니, 그리고 막내 키요코의 4형제는 모두 아버지가 달라서인지 다툼이 그치질 않는다. 지긋지긋하게 싸우는 가족들의 모습에 질린 키요코는 집을 나와 하숙을 시작하게 된다. 나루세 미키오 감독이 다이에이 영화사에서 찍은 최초의 영화로 익숙하지 않은 환경에서의 촬영이었으나, 가족들이 각자의 마음을 숨긴 채 소바를 먹는 장면은 나루세 미키오 특유의 시선극을 잘 보여준다. 20세기 중반 일본 영화의 황금기를 이끌었던 거장 나루세 미키오의 대표작
