During a riot in Tehran, he disappears when two women are looking forward to seeing him impatiently: his wife, Maryam, who is desperately seeking him all through the city, and a convicted woman, Shahla, who needs him as the only witness who can save her from death with a confession in the appeal court…

젊은 연인인 로나와 하메드는 더 나은 삶을 위해 아프가니스탄을 떠나 유럽으로 망명하려고 한다. 그러기 위해서 우선 불법으로 이란까지 버스로 도착한다. 이미 테헤란에 와있는 또 다른 아프간 친구의 거처에 머물면서 터키로 이동할 준비까지 마친다. 하지만 최종적으로 터키에서 유럽으로 건너가 난민으로 인정받으려면 그들이 납득할만한 사유가 필요하다는 점을 깨닫게 된다. 결국 이슬람에서 가톨릭으로 개종하려고 하지만 더 큰 문제와 위험이 도사리고 있다.
