20세기 브라질 정치사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 인물인 제툴리우 바르가스. 군의 쿠데타 이후 1934년 대통령에 당선된 바르가스는 브라질 경제와 사회의 근대화를 가져온 영웅이자 민주화의 길을 거스른 독재자의 양면을 지닌 인물. 집권 말기에는 독재정권의 유지를 위해 정적과 언론을 장악하려는 계획을 세우고, 그 음모가 드러나자 하야의 압박에 시달리다가 결국 자살을 선택한다. 는 바르가스의 마지막 10일을 다양한 관점으로 재구성하는 정치 액션 스릴러 영화다. 영화는 바르가스의 혹은 반대세력의 입장 어느 한 쪽에도 치우치지 않은 채, 문제의 10일 동안 각자가 사태를 바라보고 취하는 행동들을 열거한다. 액션 스릴러 장르 특유의 리드미컬한 편집과 액션 시퀀스에도 불구하고, 전반적으로 차분한 영화의 극적전개는 바르가스에 대한 후대의 양가적 평가와도 무관하지 않다. 실제 사건이 벌어졌던 장소에서 로케이션 촬영이 진행되었고 실제 사물들을 소품으로 사용하는 등 철저한 고증에 따라 완성된 작품.
