Critical Assembly is based on two college students (Katherine Heigl and Kerr Smith) who build a nuclear device, which is stolen by a fellow student. When it ends up in the hands of a terrorist, they work with an FBI agent (Beach) in a race against time.

밝고, 쾌활한 성격의 에드((Ed: 켈 미첼 분)는 '굿버거'라는 햄버거 가게의 종업원이다. 늦잠 때문에 늘상 출근시간에 쫓기는 그는 롤러 브레이드를 타고 출근 길에 나서지만 형편없는 실력 때문에 매일 온 동네를 아수라장으로 만든다. 한편 고교생 덱스터(Dexter Reed: 키넌 톰슨 분)는 여름방학이 시작되는 날, 엄마차를 몰고 학교에서 돌아오던 중 롤러 브레이드가 서툰 에드를 피하다가 그만 담임 선생님의 차를 들이받는다. 다행이 다친 사람은 없지만 크게 파손된 선생님 차 수리비 마련을 위해 덱스터는 여름방학 내내 아르바이트를 해야할 상황이다. 에드가 일하는 굿버거 맞은 편에 최첨단 시설의 만도 버거가 개업을 하고 덱스터는 이곳에서 아르바이트를 하다가 곧 쫓겨난다. 결국 덱스터는 에드의 권유로 굿버거에서 일을 하게 되는데...
