In nineteenth century Poland, Kacper Wosinski is cursed by his wife Maryna on her deathbed. Her evil spirit then haunts him in the form of a she-wolf.

A two-part historical film covering the years of the First World War and the post-war period up to 1919 - until the signing of the peace treaty in Versailles near Paris. An attempt to show the great and complicated process of regaining an independent existence by a nation within its own state. The screen shows characters from history textbooks: Józef Piłsudski, Ignacy Paderewski, Roman Dmowski, Wojciech Korfanty as well as representatives of the world political scene, incl. David Lloyd George, Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau, Vladimir Lenin and others.

사회 대변동의 시기가 도래한 1970년, 한 마을에 화학 공장이 새로 지어질 예정이다. 그러나 공장 관리자와 주민들의 갈등은 계속되고, 건설 실무를 맡은 스테판은 고민에 빠진다. 그는 마을 주민들이 모두 만족할 수 있는 방법을 찾으려 하지만 아내와의 갈등을 포함해 크고 작은 사건이 계속 이어진다. 1976년 폴란드영화제 심사위원 특별상 수상. (한국시네마테크협의회) 1970년, 대규모의 화학공장을 건설할 장소를 결정 하기 위해 난상토론과 밀실에서의 타협이 이루어지고 장소가 결정된다. 고지식한 당원인 베드나츠가 이 건설의 책임을 맡게 되면서, 좋지 않은 기억으로 남아있는 옛 고향을 다시 찾게 된다. 베드나츠는 옛 고향을 사람들이 평화롭게 어울려 사는 곳으로 만들고 싶어하지만 그의 신념은 마을 사람들의 탐욕스러운 욕구와 충돌하고 결국 포기하게 된다. 기록영화작업을 꾸준히 하던 키에슬로프스키의 첫 장편영화로 좌파 세력의 위선적인 모습을 대단히 미묘하지만 효과적으로 보여준 작품. 키에슬로프스키 감독은 이 영화로 모스크바영화제 대상을 수상하며 `도덕적 불안의 영화` 세대의 지도자로 국내외에서 확실한 주목을 받았다. 주인공이 긴 기차 여행을 한 후에 도착한 요양원은 조그만 다리와 검은 숲을 통과한 곳에 위치하며 검은 개들이 출몰한다. 요양원 마을에서 시간은 제멋대로 흘러간다. 사람들은 죽음과도 같은 잠에 빠져들어 몇 시간, 혹은 며칠씩을 듬성듬성 잃어버린다. 주인공은 마을에서 도망쳐 나오지만, 이미 모래시계 속에 갇혀버린 듯, 그에게 탈출구는 없다.

The young couple love each other. The boy is in constant work which will fit him, and in the end becomes a petty thief who cannot pay his debts anymore and decides to steal from homes where he pays scheduled visits to lonely housewifes. The girl works a nurse but is too sensitive in extreme cases. Running parallel to their story is a metaphor involving a castaway on a junkyard, who tries every means possible to get rid of the dog which becomes attached to him. In the end he attaches sticks of dynamite to the dog, but he breaks loose and the explosion wipes them both.

1945. A packed ferry drifts down the Vistula after its tow rope snaps. Nobody but Kros, a policeman, notices, and he must organize a rescue before the ferry drifts into the Bay of Gdansk, which is still full of mines.

Set in the 19th century Warsaw. The indolence of aristocrats who, secure with their pensions, are too lazy to undertake new business risks, frustrates Wokulski. His ability to make money is respected but his lack of family and social rank is condescended to. Because of his "help" (in secret) to "the doll's" impecunious but influential father, the girl becomes aware of his affection.

Ala is unable to settle down and often changes husbands. She introduces each newly married spouse to her mother.
