A ruminative, understated drama on the nature of overwork versus an "unachieving" life away from the city, Pelnia examines the experience of one man. After leaving his high-pressured existence as a successful architect, the newly resolved dropout goes to live in a small community of cabins and summer homes in a lake-filled region north of Warsaw. His interactions with the villagers, including a drunkard and other eccentrics, provide an informative background for what happens next. The ex-architect's wife is a professional singer who has not abandoned the city or her life -- and she soon arrives to spend some time with her very changed husband.

Stefan Starzyński, the mayor of Warsaw, organizes life in the capital in September 1939 and lift the inhabitants' spirits via radio announcements. After the surrender, he does not use his last chance to escape.

(한국시네마테크협의회) 1970년, 대규모의 화학공장을 건설할 장소를 결정 하기 위해 난상토론과 밀실에서의 타협이 이루어지고 장소가 결정된다. 고지식한 당원인 베드나츠가 이 건설의 책임을 맡게 되면서, 좋지 않은 기억으로 남아있는 옛 고향을 다시 찾게 된다. 베드나츠는 옛 고향을 사람들이 평화롭게 어울려 사는 곳으로 만들고 싶어하지만 그의 신념은 마을 사람들의 탐욕스러운 욕구와 충돌하고 결국 포기하게 된다. 기록영화작업을 꾸준히 하던 키에슬로프스키의 첫 장편영화로 좌파 세력의 위선적인 모습을 대단히 미묘하지만 효과적으로 보여준 작품. 키에슬로프스키 감독은 이 영화로 모스크바영화제 대상을 수상하며 `도덕적 불안의 영화` 세대의 지도자로 국내외에서 확실한 주목을 받았다. Zofia is an elderly woman living in an retirement home. Separate from the rest, she talks seldom and then only about visiting her daughter's family for Christmas. When she comes to her daughter's home unannounced, her stay is spoiled by the damage to her son-in-law doctorate bookmarks which she removed unknowingly during dusting. She then spends Christmas in an empty restaurant, surrounded by waiters and musicians waiting to be tipped.

A young farm boy spends his days dreaming and making totem-pole like sculptures out of wood. His brother is a go-getter: studies agricultural engineering, comes back with diploma to marry the pretty girl next door. The dreamer graces puts his sculptures around, invoking anger of his father and ridicule of the peasants who find him useless. During the brother's wedding he sets his totems ablaze. He makes a pass at his new sister-in-law, but returns to his own reveries. In the end he hears a call to bring a log out of the marshes, but during the escapade sinks into the bog.

A disqualified trainer of water jumpers starts work in the province, where he discovers Majka's talent.
