‘네이트’(미키 루크)는 잔혹하기로 소문난 갱단의 ‘쉐넌’(빌 머레이)의 애인을 건드린 바람에 그 수하들에게 붙잡혀 보복 당한다. 가까스로 그들의 손아귀를 빠져 나와 도망치던 ‘네이트’는 우연히 서커스장에서 지독하게 아름다운 여인 ‘릴리’(메간 폭스)와 마주친다. 서커스장에 갇힌 채 지옥 같은 삶을 살던 ‘릴리’는 자신에게 친절을 베푼 ‘네이트’에게 급격히 빠져들지만 ‘쉐넌’에게 쫓기던 ‘네이트’는 자신의 목숨을 위해 ‘릴리’를 팔아 넘길 결심을 한다. 그러나 그때, ‘릴리’가 숨겨온 충격적 진실이 드러나며 모든 사건이 뒤집히기 시작한다.
