The title refers to those strange coincidences that happen to us sometimes and that seem inevitable, like a product of destiny. Inspired by the experience of a Canarian child victim of cancer, the film is conceived as a Christmas story.

Barcelona, 1980s: in a tough urban neighbourhood inhabited by survivors and ruled by ex-legionnaires Gandhi, Fontán and Andrade - who are fighting a war for control of the streets - Nen and his friends Palito, Topo and Tostao dream of making it big in the world of rumba. But Nen discovers why his father, El Guacho - of whom all Nen has left is the memory of his brilliance as a rumba singer - disappeared many years earlier. He learns how the relationship between his mother, Chata, and Ghandi, leader of the neighbourhood, was connected to his father's disappearance, and so Nen is forced to balance his own desire for vengeance with his longing to triumph.

곤충학자가 남태평양의 한 공포의 섬에서 서식하고 있는 괴물의 정체를 밝혀내는 이야기. 와 을 혼합한 듯한 이야기. 영화에 등장하는 괴물의 모습은 잭 숄더 감독이 거미를 확대한 사진을 보고 그 공포감에 매혹되어 이를 리모델링했다고 한다. 남태평양의 한 무인도 주변에서 스텔스기와 함께 실종된 조종사가 기적처럼 살아돌아온다. 그는 자신이 무인도에서 겪었던 끔찍한 악몽들을 털어놓고, 그가 말한 괴생물체를 조사하기 위해 연구원 및 특수요원들로 구성된 조사단이 섬으로 파견된다. 이들을 태운 비행기가 무인도 상공에 이르자 갑작스런 방해전파가 발생하여 비행기는 불시착하고 조사단은 하는 수 없이 걸어서 목적지로 이동한다. 험난한 여정 끝에 목적지에 도착한 조사단은 조사를 시작하기도 전에 난관에 봉착한다. 연구원들과 함께 동행해 그들을 인솔하려는 목적으로 섬에 왔던 특수요원 중 한 명의 몸에 이상이 생긴 것이다. 온 몸의 피부가 완전히 벗겨지고 찢어진 채 그의 몸을 숙주로 삼은 괴생명체가 그 안에서 자라나고 있었다. 이 광경을 목격한 조사단 일행은 경악하는데, 그 이후에는 조사단의 구성원들이 한두명씩 실종되기 시작한다. 섬에서 벌어지는 심상치 않은 일들로 인해 이들은 극도의 공포에 휩싸이고, 위험에 직면한 대원들 사이에서는 서서히 미세한 균열이 일어나기 시작한다.

1987년 스코틀랜드 글래스고우시의 버스운전수 조지 레녹스는 자신의 버스에 무임승차한 칼라라는 여자를 알게 된다. 거리의 무용수로 난민수용소에 살고 있는 칼라는 무정부 상태로 친 소노사파와 민족해방군, 반정부군이 대립하고 있는 니카라과의 민족해방군 위문공연단의 무용수다. 그녀는 반정부군 게릴라의 습격으로 남자친구가 반군에게 무참히 짓밟히는 현장을 목격하고 그 충격을 이기지 못해 영국으로 도망쳐 나왔다. 두 사람이 가까워지던중 칼라의 자살기도가 있게 되고, 그 원인이 옛 애인 안토니오임을 알게된 조지는 안토니오를 찾으러 칼라와 니카라과로 간다.

A group of Africans clandestinely reaches the coast of southern Spain. Among them is Alou, a 28 years old Senegalese. As all his belongings are stolen while in Almsería, he has no choice but to engage in street vending. His only pleasure are the letters he writes to his family to tell the vicissitudes of his Spanish adventure.

In the post Spanish civil war years, Catalan kids would sit in circles among the ruins and tell stories, known as "aventis" (the film's original title in Catalan, its original language). These tales mix war stories, local gossip, comic book characters, fantasy and real events. The "aventis" told in this film are told in flashback. In the mid 80s, 45 or so years after the age of the "aventis," a doctor and a nurse-nun (who grew up together, and now are co-workers in a hospital) identify the corpse of one of the main characters of the "aventis" of their childhood and adolescence. Besides the interesting flashbacks - a chronical of the Civil War in a "typical" Barcelona microcosm itself, the discovery of this body (belonging to someone long presumed dead) leads to other surprises and unresolved doubts, several decades later

A young woman marries a rich man and begins a new life in a little town in the Spain of the 20s. Feeling trapped and bored, she begins a relationship with her husband's stepbrother.
