17세기 프랑스, 열네살의 어린왕 ‘루이 14세’는 실질적 권력을 움켜쥔 어머니와 재상 마자랭의 빛에 가려 우울하고 고독한 유년을 보낸다. 그런 그에게 주어진 것이 있다면 춤과 음악뿐이다. 작곡가 륄리는 그런 루이의 삶과 예술에 동반자가 된다. 그리고 언젠가 왕이 될 루이를 위해 그를 빛나게 할 최고의 음악과 플라토닉, 그 이상의 열정적 사랑을 바친다. 또한 왕실 극단의 몰리에르 역시 날카로운 필치로 왕을 위협하는 존재들인 귀족들의 세태를 풍자하며 루이 14세의 권력과 위엄을 한층 높여준다. 하지만 왕권 유지를 위해 루이 14세는 그들과 거리를 두기 시작한다. 그러나 음악적 야심과 왕에 대한 애증의 감정에서 빠져나오지 못하는 륄리는 파행과 독선을 일삼기 시작하고 이로 인해 그는 왕의 사랑과 신뢰를 잃고 마는데.....

Kresten, newly wed, is on the threshold of a great career success in his father-in-law´s company. But when the death of his own father takes him back to his poverty-stricken childhood home, far out in the country, his career plans fall apart. For one thing he has to deal with his loveable, backward brother, who is now all alone; for another, he meets a stunning woman who comes to the farm as a housekeeper, in disguise of her real profession as a call-girl.

Fagin is the bad bird of an otherwise idyllic forest. He assaults the nest of two wrens and destroys all their eggs except one that, when hatched, is adopted by an owl (patterned on W. C. Fields). A counter-offensive against Fagin is launched with help enlisted from a seagull named Armstrong, two nice mice and a sparrow. There is romance, too, and a jazzy score goes with this animated ornithology extravaganza.
