국제 구호기구 소속의 맘브루(베니치오 델 토로)는 발칸 반도에 위치한 어느 한 마을의 우물 속에 있는 시체 인양 작업을 하던 중 밧줄이 끊어지는 사태를 맞고 만다. 마을에는 여분의 밧줄이 없는 상황에서, 맘브루는 그의 동료 B(팀 로빈스)와 소피(멜라니 티에리)에게 도움을 요청한다. 그렇지만 도착한 B와 소피 역시 방법이 없기는 매 한가지고, 그때부터 구조대원들의 밧줄 찾기 대모험이 시작된다. 인근마을 위주로 밧줄을 찾는 B와 통역관 다미르(페자 스투칸)과 달리 UN 주둔군 기지를 찾아가 도움을 요청하려던 소피와 맘브루는 UN기지를 찾아가던중 길에서 괴롭힘을 당하는 소년 니콜라(엘다 레지도빅)를 구조하게된다. 도착한 UN 기지에서는 원론적인 답변만을 듣게되는 맘브루는 그곳에서 자신의 전 연인 카티야(올가 쿠릴렌코)를 만나게된다. 이제 여섯 명으로 늘어나버린 구조대원들은 밧줄을 구하기 위해 세상에서 가장한 완벽한 날을 보내게 된다.

각각 인도와 파키스탄의 비밀첩보요원이라는 직업을 가진 남녀가 작전중에 만나면서 서로 사랑하게 되는 이야기이다...여기서 주 설정은 인도와 파키스탄은 서로 대립관계에 있는 나라로 설정되면서 두사람은 만나서는 않되는 그런 사이이기도 하다... 서로의 위치를 모른체 작전중 만나게 되는 두 남녀가 가까이 지내면서 끌리게 되지만...먼저 남자의 위치를 알게된 여자가 자취를 감추면서 두사람은 잠시의 이별을 하게 된다.. 그러다 두 나라간의 분쟁으로 인해 국제회의가 치러지는 곳에서 서로 마주치게 되면서 알게되면서 다시금 헤어져야 하는 사실을 깨닫게 된다.

The strong friendship between three friends is to be tested at the moment they learn that an old childhood companion has died and has left them his entire estate. To get it they must participate in a pre-planned wager devised by the deceased. This results in a mad spiral of competitiveness that will make the lives of the protagonists transformed forever.

In the Headquarters of the T.I.A. (Terminal Intelligence Agency), someone has stolen Professor Bacterio's most dangerous invention, the D.O.T. (Demoralizer of Troops), an artifact that ends up in the hands of a very short, wacky dictator who is ready to use it for criminal purposes. The T.I.A Chief, though, is firm in his resolve: if he wants to get the D.O.T. back, he must NOT count on his agents Mortadelo & Filemon. But when the crime fighting duo discover that the T.I.A. has engaged a cocky and slimy detective from outside the agency, they decide to act at their own risk, even if that risk involves all of Humanity.
