Shizui Sakagami

The young Takako Kuramoto has come to Tokyo to study and starts working for the rich Tashiro family as tutor of the daughter, Kumiko, while she receives attention from her two older brothers, Yukichi and Shinji. Meanwhile, the exact parentage of Shinji comes to light.

In a warehouse area at night, a drunk chief engineer is stabbed to death by someone who whistles. After the break of dawn, two seamen join the crew of a rusty cargo ship Kaiyo Maru. One is a troublemaker with bad attitudes, Senkichi Nomura, who pursues an enemy in order to take revenge for his father's death. The other is Keizo Sasaki, a buff, eagle-eyed man on board for a certain mission.

Eikichi Yamashiro, who is a former contender for the boxing title, works as a manager at a Club Champion owned by his fiancé Natsuko’s father. He lost a title match five years ago as he was besotted by Natsuko, but Eikichi actually cannot give up the dream of the championship. One day, he meets Shuntaro Fuma, who is a punk kid but a promising boxer, and realizes the dream that he himself could never fulfill. Then, they together start to train with the aim of the title. Mari Shiraki is an up-and-coming ballerina under the patronage of Eikichi as well. Eikichi forbids Shuntaro and Mari to be romantically involved with someone during their training, however, they start to go on a date. (source: Nikkatsu International)

Reiko, who tolerates abuse in her marriage to a man 23 years her senior, is friends with Mayumi, a beautiful widow. Reiko meets her husband’s business rival, a young, capable businessman, and falls for him. Meanwhile, Mayumi enters into a relationship with Shimotsuma, a friend of her late husband.

전후 부흥이 한창 진행되고 있던 1950년대의 일본. 당시의 도쿄에 점재한 홍등가의 하나 ‘스자키’로 이어지는 다리의 기슭에 낡은 선술집이 있다. 매춘방지법시행 이후 머지않아 사라질 풍경 스자키의 유곽과 선술집을 배경으로 그곳에 출입하는 사람들의 일상과 남녀의 관계를 메마른 정서와 유머로 그려내고 있다.

두 아이의 어머니인 후미코는 지금까지 가정에 충실한 삶을 살아왔다. 하지만 시인이 되고 싶다는 마음을 품은 채 후미코는 계속해서 시를 쓴다. 그런 후미코에게 또다른 기회가 찾아오려고 할 때, 후미코는 남편의 불륜과 유방암이라는 고난을 맞는다. 여성 극작가로 활발하게 활동한 다나카 스미에(1908~2000)와 다나카 기누요의 협업이 빛나는 작품.

Lending money, job hunting for civilians and babysitting. All these things are usually not listed on a policeman's job description. But for the officers of this local police station, it‘s part of their daily routine. One day, patrolman Yoshii (Hisaya Morishige) finds an abandoned baby and a six year old girl standing in front of the station. When he's declined by the welfare office, orphanage and local health clinic to take them in, he decides to take care of them himself.

Saburo and Keiko fall in love with each other but the tide of war separates them.
