A gunfighter, stranded in the desert, comes across the aftermath of a stage robbery, in which all the passengers were killed. He takes one of the horses to ride to town to report the massacre, but finds himself accused of it. He also finds himself accused of the murder of the local banker, and winds up hiding in the basement of a house where the local sheriff, who is very sick, lives with his daughter.

A formula brawling-buddies western where one goes bad and then returns to the fold. Pete Menlo owns some gold claims in Nevada where he is joined by his old friend Andy Martin. Crooked mine-owner Bannon wants to merge their interests so they can create a monopoly but is turned down. Pete is interested in "Nevada" Wray, daughter of mine-owner "Jackpot" Wray, but she has eyes only for Andy. The rejected Pete joins forces with Bannon and they learn that, because of location, "Jackpot" Wray may be the owner of all the gold in the respective veins. Bannon and his men try to get rid of Andy.

무법자 웨스 맥퀸은 감옥에서 친구의 도움으로 나오게 된다. 그리고 그 친구를 도와 마지막으로 한 건을 하려고 하지만 그는 그의 새로운 동료가 마음에 들지 않는다. 범행을 준비하던 중 서부로 이주해 온 줄리 앤이라는 처녀와 그녀의 아버지를 도와주게 되고, 웨스는 그녀의 순수함에 빠져든다. 그러나 범행준비는 자꾸 꼬여만가고, 웨스에게 위기가 닥친다. 이제는 정말 벗어나야 할 시간이다. 그러나 불행히도 그의 목에는 만달러의 현상금이 걸려있다. 죽느냐 사느냐 그것이 문제인 것이다.
