A baleful limping man walks through Prague. He is Asmodeus (Juraj Herz), the fiend of lustfulness, entertaining himself by putting together by magic couples of lovers. He only fails at the swimming pool. Zuzana (Jana Sulcová), the good-looking blonde, ignores the men whom the devil foists off onto her. She loves Honza (Václav Neckár) and the boy shares her feelings. The fiend is annoyed by the couple and tries to provoke a row. He sends heavy rain to force them into a hotel and then warns Zuzana's father by phone, but the young lovers manage to get out in time. Then the obstinate Asmodeus takes Honza in his sleep to the Institute for Emotional Disorders, where he shows him the ugly sides of love - hysteria, voyeurism, fetishism, suicide attempts...

A murder in a hospital run by incompetents.

Tram driver Marie has far too much to do after her shift is over. But she likes to do it all since she loves her husband Václav sincerely. One day she spots him on the Lesser Town Square in Prague, kissing an attractive blonde good-bye. It seems to Marie that her small comfortable world has collapsed and she walks out of the tram in tears. But her sadness does not last long. She wipes off the tears and begins to act. She withdraws all the money from their savings books and buys off all the latest models from the Fashion Works. The visit to the beauty salon then completes her transformation into a lady.

Juraj Herz adapts Bohumil Hrabal's story about a man who works in a junk shop.

때는 제2차 세계대전. 체코의 작은 마을에도 나치의 마수는 어김없이 드리워지고, 유대인의 상업행위에도 제동이 걸린다. 이로 인해 가난하고 어수룩한 소작농 토노에게 귀가 들리지 않는 노년의 유대인 과부 로잘리가 운영하는 단추 가게를 가로챌 기회가 찾아온다. 동서가 기관원인 든든한 빽을 둔 덕에 공짜로 가게를 차지하게 된 토노와 졸지에 피고용인 신분이 되어버린 로잘리의 사이가 좋지 않은 건 너무도 당연한 일이다. 하지만 매일같이 투닥거리는 와중에도 토노는 로잘리에게 진심 어린 우정을 느끼게 되고, 며칠 뒤 그녀가 아우슈비츠에 끌려갈 운명임을 알게 되자 감당할 수 없는 혼란에 빠져든다.

Managers at the construction of a big hydro plant are accused of having embezzled money.

A group of jolly young people work in the Prague Tesla factory, also spending most of their leisure time together. One of them, guitar player Zdenek, begins to shun his friends' company. He has fallen in love with Vera, who does not belong to the group. The happy-go-lucky young man already has several acquaintances and has his own method to get a girl: to take his motorcycle, his guitar and a bottle of wine and take her to a rented houseboat. Vera, however, is different and gets angry at Zdenek. But she is fond of him and thus eventually spends a whole evening with him on the houseboat. At a preventative medical examination, the doctor tells Vera she is pregnant.

Jirka is a composer, his wife, Jana, a pianist. Jana would like to have an own concert, but so far she has only been selected to accompany Valenta during his concerts in Budapest. After some resentments, she accepts the proposal.

Jean-Paul is a Frenchman who yearns to live in communist Czechoslovakia. His wish is granted when, mistaken as a masseur of a French boating team, he manages to elude the democratic authorities long enough to scamper over the Czech border.

Komedianti is a 1954 Czech film directed by Vladimír Vlcek. It was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.
