독립적인 여성 누라는 병원 세탁소 일로 생계를 꾸려 세 아이를 양육한다. 남편 자밀은 사기와 강도를 일삼아 감옥에 들락거리는 신세다. 남편이 또 감옥에 간 동안 그녀는 라사드와 연인 관계가 된다. 둘의 관계가 발각되면 5년형을 살아야 하기에, 누라는 이혼 청구서를 낸다. 하지만 승인을 며칠 앞두고 남편이 돌아오면서 둘의 꿈은 무산된다. 둘의 관계를 알게 된 남편이 복수하려 하면서 벌어지는 일련의 사건들은 튀니지의 결혼과 이혼에 대한 법률 및 경찰로 대변되는 사회 제도가 얼마나 여성의 삶에 부당하게 작용하는지 고통스럽게 보여준다.
