In foggy London Dr Jekyll experiments on newly deceased women determined to discover an elixir for immortal life. Success enables his spectacular transformation into the beautiful but psychotic Sister Hyde who stalks the dark alleys of Whitechapel for young, innocent, female victims, ensuring continuation of the bloodstained research. With each transformation Sister Hyde becomes the more dominant personality, determined to eventually suppress the frail, ineffectual Dr Jekyll forever.

The police, with the help of a baker, try to find the owner a loaf of bread accidentally poisoned with potassium cyanide.

영국의 저명한 극작가 테렌스 래티건의 희곡 'The Sleeping Prince'를 마릴린 몬로가 직접 각색한 것이다. 영국에서 촬영되었으며, 올리비에와 몬로의 프로덕션이 합작으로 제작했다. 올리비에 - 몬로 사이의 연기 조화가 예상 외로 좋았고, 조연진들이 아주 좋은 호흡을 맞추어주었다. 오랜 무대 역사를 가진 영국의 탄탄한 연기진들의 실력을 볼 수가 있다. 1911년 영국왕 죠지 5세의 대관식에 참석하기 위해서 온 어느 나라의 왕자와 우연히 대사관에 들른 미국인 쇼걸 아가씨와의 사이에서 벌어지는 해프닝과 은근한 로맨스가 펼쳐진다. 상류 사회의 위선을 풍자하고 인간성의 진실은 신분과는 관계가 없다는 메시지를 담고 있어서 그런대로 의미가 있는 작품이기는 하나, 지나치게 이야기를 끄는 듯한 느낌이 주는 영화이다. 비평가들의 평가는 그런대로 좋았으나 흥행에서는 실패했다.

1857년, 글래스고의 한 저택에 살고 있는 부유한 상인의 딸 매들린은 아버지의 성화에 못 이겨 그가 원하는 결혼상대인 미노치와 약혼한다. 하지만 그녀는 밤이 되면 지하실에서 연인 에밀과 밀회를 나누곤 하는데, 약혼 사실을 알게 된 에밀이 질투심에 불타 자신을 가족들에게 소개하지 않으면 매들린이 보낸 러브레터를 그녀의 아버지에게 보이겠다며 협박하기 시작한다. 매들린은 에밀에게 함께 멀리 도망가 살자고 부탁하지만 거절당하고, 에밀의 협박이 시작된 지 얼마 지나지 않아 그는 비소 중독으로 사망한 채 발견된다. 그와 함께 발견된 매들린의 러브레터로 그녀는 살인죄로 체포되고 법정에 서게 되는데...

An officer's wife has a romantic dream about her husband's man (servant) and comes to believe it is true. Meanwhile the husband has asked his servant to help him, after the war, to suggest ways to ignite the romance he and his wife had before the war, as well as find a way to make money in a post-war economy.

Esther goes into service in Victorian England, only to be seduced by the sweet talking groom William, who then takes off with his employer's daughter. Left alone to bring up the child, Esther manages and after 7 years has a chance at happiness. Then William turns up again...
