Ichirô Katô

Near the end of Japanese civil war, several disgraced ronin living in Edo's red light district attempt to regain their honor by defending a brothel from a hostile militia bent on wiping out local prostitutes.

료마는 막부 쪽의 자객에게 저격 대상이 된 것뿐만 아니라 근황의 주류파들에게도 저격 대상이 된다. 1867년 11월 새로운 정치를 세워야 한다는 킨노파와 현 권력을 유지하고자 하는 사바쿠파의 일대 충돌이 일어나는데, 료마는 킨노파에 속해있다. 그리고 료마는 우연히 알게 된 여자 반이 사바쿠파의 테러 그룹인 신센구미의 멤버인 토미타 사부로의 여자인 것도 모른채 친하게 지낸다.

몇 년 전 과거, 남들 몰래 시를 쓰곤 하는 오리코는 젊은 남자와 연애를 하는 어머니 때문에 고민 중이다. 그리고 현재의 오리코는 바람을 피우는 남편과 간신히 결혼 생활을 유지하며 사고로 세상을 떠난 어머니를 종종 떠올린다. 그리고 과거 어머니의 애인이었던 미쓰하루를 찾아가 대화를 나눈다.
