이조 마지막 도공 이노인은 일제 통치 이후 유리그릇 유입으로 가마에 불을 지피지 못한다. 사기그릇은 더이상 백성들의 생필품이 아니기 때문이다. 또한 이노인의 딸 분례마저 일자리를 찾아 경성으로 떠난다. 그러나 이조 백자에 남다른 관심을 갖고 있는 다께야마는 이노인에게 다시 가마에 불을 지피게 하지만 곧 중지시킨다. 완전한 이조 백자가 재현된다면 자신이 소장한 백자의 희소가치가 떨어질 뿐만 아니라, 일본보다 우수한 조선의 도예기술이 알려지는 것이 싫기 때문이다. 그래서 그들은 창길을 회유하여 이조 백자 도굴 앞잡이로 삼으려 하고, 창길은 일본기생이 된 분례를 빼내기 위해서 돈이 필요하게 되자 도굴을 시작한다. 한편, 다께야마는 창길과 분례가 가지고 있는 철사로문호 백자를 빼앗으려 하지만 창길이 민족혼을 팔아먹었던 자신을 뉘우치고 유혹을 물리치자 장물아비의 죄목으로 연행당해 고문을 받고 철사호문호를 포기하고 만다. 그러나 분례는 서장을 회유하여 철사호문호를 산 뒤 이노인의 영전에 바치고 떠난다.
