택시 기사인 테드 스트라이커(Ted Striker: 로버트 헤이스 분)와 스튜어디스인 일레인(Elaine Dickinson: 줄리 헤거티 분)은 오랜 연인 사이. 그러나 과거 공군 조종사로 참전했던 테드가 작전 수행 도중 전사한 동료들에 대한 기억으로 인해 일종의 비행 공포증을 앓게 되고, 전우의 죽음이 자신의 판단 착오 탓이라며 하루하루 자책하며 살아가자 견디다 못한 일레인은 결별을 선언한다. 이에 테드는 떠나는 일레인을 설득하고자 엉겁결에 그녀가 승선한 시카고행 209편기에 오르게 되고, 비행 공포증을 이겨내고자 과거 일레인과의 추억담을 옆좌석 사람들에게 들려준다. 그러던 중 기내 식사로 생선을 먹은 승객들이 식중독 증세를 보이고, 기장(Captain Oveur: 피터 그레이브스 분)을 비롯한 조종사들마저 정신을 잃게 된다. 위기 상황에 처한 여승무원들은 조종 경험이 있는 승객을 수소문하고 마침내 테드가 조종대를 잡게 된다. 1시간 내에 병원으로 후송되지 못하면 생명이 위태로운 승객들. 테드는 시카고 공항에 불시착하고자 하지만 되살아나는 과거의 악몽으로 상황은 어려워져만 간다. 하지만 위기 상황에서 지휘를 맡은 노의사 러막크(Doctor Rumack: 레슬리 닐슨 분)의 말에 감명을 받아 마침내 용기를 얻어 여객기를 무사히 착륙시킨다. 그리고 일레인의 사랑도 되찾는다.

Jack McKee and Cecil Colson are two bumbling drifters who make a living by rustling cattle from other peoples herds in the wilds of Montana. Jack is from a wealthy background but left his parents as he resented their posh lives, and Cecil is a Native American half-breed seeking his own path in life away from his father. Both hustle and rustle their way in the world by targeting cattle owned by wealthy ranch owner John Brown. Frustrated that someone is killing his cattle, John hires a pair of ranch hands Burt and Curt to find the rustlers. When Brown realizes he cannot trust his two inept ranch hands, he turns to the grizzled former rustler Henry Beige to find the cattle thieves, while Jack and Cecil are always one step ahead of them, not realizing that their luck will eventually run out sometime.

왕년의 미식축구 선수였던 해리 모스비(진 핵크먼)는 현재 사설탐정으로 일하고 있다. 그러던 어느 날 그는 알렌 아이버슨(자넷 워드)으로부터 가출한 16세 딸 델리 그래스너(멜라니 그리피스)를 찾아달라는 의뢰를 받는다. 왕년의 글래머 여배우였던 알렌은 과거 어빙 그래스너라는 영화계의 거물과 결혼하며 알렌을 낳았던 것. 알렌은 델리가 사라진 지 2주 정도 됐고 평소 쿠엔틴(제임스 우즈)같은 불량한 애들과 어울렸다고 말한다. 쿠엔틴을 만난 해리는 함께 워너브라더스사에서 일하며 스턴트맨 마브와 함께 어울렸고, 그들 세 사람이 삼각관계였음을 알게 된다. 그리고 델리가 자신의 양아버지이자 알렌의 두 번째 남편 톰 아이버슨을 찾아 플로리다로 갔다고 추측한다. 그래서 그는 해리를 찾기 위해 플로리다로 떠나고 델리가 톰과 그의 새로운 여자 폴라(제니퍼 워렌)와 함께 지내고 있음을 알게 된다. 해리는 그들 사이에서 한동안 머물며 그들과 깊은 관계를 맺게 된다. 하지만 자신의 임무를 다하기 위해 델리를 데려간다. 그러고 얼마 뒤 해리는 델리가 영화 촬영 도중 불의의 사고로 죽게 됐다는 소식을 듣는다. 그 죽음이 뭔가 미심쩍다고 생각한 그는 당일의 영화 촬영 분량을 면밀히 검토하면서 그 죽음을 추적한다.

The chief rivals of the Feather Family in producing and selling illegal corn liquor are the Gutshalls, father Pap, and sons Ludie, Seb, and Villum. In addition to fighting over the white lightning market, the two families have also been feuding over some land that each believes is their property. As a prank, Ludie mails a postcard from a fictitious woman named Lolly-Madonna to the Feather household, in order to get the brothers squabbling over which son has attracted the mysterious admirer. But the joke has unexpected consequences when Thrush and Hawk kidnap a woman who was passing through town to meet her fiancée, assuming that she is Lolly Madonna.

영화는 자살 시도가 취미인 우울한 부잣집 도령 해롤드와 남의 차를 몰고다니면서 과속하는게 취미인 할머니 모드의 교감에 대한 이야기다. 여기서 포인트는 부잣집 도령님 해롤드에 있다. 소년이 다른 사람을 통해 성장하는걸 줄거리로 봐야할테니까. 이렇게 보면 다른 성장영화와 별로 다르지도 않건만 이 영화는 그보단 과격하다. 예쁘장한 부잣집 아들래미가 자살 시도를 말그대로 취미삼아 한다는 것부터가 심상치 않다. 하지만 그보다 사람들을 놀라게한건 소년에 가까운 젊은 남자와 80세 생일을 며칠 남겨둔 할머니가 연애 같은걸 한다는 줄거리다. 휴 헤프너의 경우처럼 할아버지와 젊은 여자의 로맨스(?)는 보기 어렵지 않지만, 할머니와 청년 커플은 흔하지 않으니까 전복적인 관계인건 사실이다. 그러나 해롤드와 모드는 엄청난 나이차를 잊게할만큼 죽이 잘 맞는다. 비슷한 연상연하 커플인 스타워즈 프리퀄의 파드메와 아나킨처럼 억지로 연애를 하는 것처럼 보이지도 않는다. '해롤드는 모드를 사랑해'에 화답해 '모드도 해롤드를 사랑해'라고하는 고백 장면에서는 어떤 강요된 느낌도 없다. 그저 '우리 서로 사랑하게 해주세요' 이상도 이하도 아닌 평범한 커플일 뿐. 여기서 이 영화의 블랙 코미디가 시작한다. 사람들의 일반적인 기대치를 벗어나도 한참 벗어나는 관계를 시치미 딱 떼고 평범함과 사랑스러움으로 포장했으니...
