Shunsaku was paralyzed from the neck down at the young age of 36 by a spinal injury suffered in a motorcycle accident. A blind woman named Hanae arrives to be his caregiver. Despite her frustrations with Shusaku's ill-nature and verbal abuse, Hanae also harbors a tremendous sense of being deprived that she doesn't tell others.

운명처럼 서로를 알아본 후, 인디 밴드 ‘하루레오’를 결성한 ‘하루’와 ‘레오’ 그리고 그들의 음악에 빠져든 매니저 ‘시마’ 언제나 함께일 것 같았지만 서로 다른 곳을 바라보게 된 세 사람은 첫 전국 투어가 끝나면 ‘하루레오’를 해체하기로 결정한다. 마지막 콘서트가 끝나면, 우리는 다시 돌아갈 수 있을까? 함께일 때 빛나는 세 청춘의 노래가 시작된다.

'미나'는 병에 걸려 시한부 삶을 산다. 그녀는 1941년 12월 7일에 죽는데, 일본이 진주만 공습을 하면서 태평양전쟁이 시작된 날이다. 그래서 그녀는 일본의 도덕성을 상징한다고 하겠다. 또 한 사람 이 영화의 주인공 토시히코인데, 이어지는 장면에서 미나에게 키스하려고 할 때 그녀가 거절한다. 처음에는 둘이 친척 관계라서 그런 줄 알았는데 나중에 밝혀지는 걸 보면 미나는 토시히코의 이모의 죽은 (만주에서 죽었다) 남편의 여동생이다. 그래서 친척 관계는 이유가 아닌 것 같다. 아마 자신이 곧 죽을 것이기 때문에 사랑하지 말라는 뜻인 듯하다. 도덕성을 잃은 조국을 사랑하지 말라는 뜻도 될까. 토시히코는 평생 독신으로 산다. 그의 미나에 대한 감정은 이 마지막 장면에서야 분명히 드러난다.

끊길 듯 끊어지지 않는 특이한 구성으로, 여러 개의 에피소드를 별개의 영화처럼 늘어놓으며 주인공의 영혼을 흥미롭게 해부하는 듯한 작품. 거주간병인인 사와는 자신의 아버지와 자달라는 고용주의 황당한 요구를 들어주다 사고를 저지르고 직업을 잃는다. 설상가상으로 돈까지 잃어버린 그녀는 길에서 우연히 만난 노인들을 협박하고 회유하면서 같이 지내는 기상천외한 삶을 산다. 그들과의 삶을 통해 사와는 그들이 주변사람들과 맺는 무력한 관계를 치유시키는 희한한 마술을 부린다. 긴 분량의 상영시간에도 불구하고 인간에 대한 감독의 분방한 상상력과 관점을 만끽하게 하는 작품이다.
