1941년 9월 만난 지 한 달 된 연인 코스티아와 나스티아는 레닌그라드에서 사람들을 싣고 대피하는 바지선에 오르게 된다. 9월 16일 밤 독일군은 바지선을 폭격하고 바지선에 있던 1,500명의 레닌그라드 시민들은 목숨을 잃을 위기에 처한다. 이 때 코스티아가 목숨을 걸고 나서 사람들을 구하고 이 계기로 페트루치크는 나스티아를 코스티아에게 양보하기로 하는데…
