촌동네에 사는 단짝 친구 잭과 랜디는 동네 사람들을 비밀리에 촬영하는 인터넷 쇼를 시작한다. 그러던 중 이웃들이 정체모를 생명체한테 물려 이상해지고 있으며, 그 배후에 마을의 목사님이 있다는 사실을 발견한다. 잭이 짝사랑하는 케일라의 아버지마저 이상해지고, 세 명이서 케일라의 집을 조사해 보는데 케일라 어머니의 시체가 나온다. 경찰관 조쉬한테 영상을 보여준 후, 그를 데리고 다 같이 케일라의 집에 가보지만 케일라 어머니는 살아 계신다. 케일라는 부모님한테 감정이 안 느껴져서 진짜 부모님이 아니라는 걸 짐작하지만, 조쉬는 이 모든 게 잭과 랜디가 인터넷 쇼를 위해 조작한 거라고 생각하고 세 명의 말을 안 믿어준다. 영상을 인터넷에 올려 외부의 도움이라도 청하려고 하지만, 갑자기 인터넷도 안 터진다 결국 잭과 랜디는 부모님을, 케일라는 동생 조이를 데리고 마을을 탈출하기로 하기로 하는데...
