이 영화는 감옥에서 막 석방되어 남편과 아이를 찾아가는 바산티와 전과자인 찬두의 로드무비이다. 적대자에서 동반자로, 동반자에서 연인으로 발전하는 두 사람의 관계는 전형적인 것 같지만 주변부 인생을 살아온 두 사람의 사연이 하나씩 펼쳐지면서 만만치 않은 정서적 울림을 준다. 바산티가 아들을 만났음에도 불구하고 정착할 수 없었던 시골과는 달리, 두 사람이 탈주와 도주를 거듭했던 대도시는 폭력에 물들고 범죄가 지배하는 공간이지만, 결국 이들이 살아가야 할 삶의 중심부이다. 바산티가 아들을 만나기 전에 두 주인공이 성스러운 강에서 목욕을 함으로써 자기 정화를 한다는 설정도 흥미롭다. 실제로 찬두는 이 성스러운 목욕 이후 범죄 집단의 동료들과 연락하던 전화를 던져버림으로써 과거의 삶과 결별하고 새로운 삶을 향해 나아가려 한다.
