1776년 미국, 훗날 미국 건국의 주역이 되는 알렉산더 해밀턴은 혁명 전야의 뉴욕에 도착하고, 그곳에서 처음으로 애런 버를 만난다. 해밀턴은 버가 자신과 마찬가지로 부모를 어린 나이에 잃었고 대학을 2년만에 졸업한 엄청난 능력의 소유자 임을 알고 유대감을 느낀다. 한편 버의 친구들인 존 로렌스, 허큘리스 멀리건, 그리고 라파예트 후작은 해밀턴의 열정과 추진력에 이끌리고, 혁명을 위해 뜻을 같이 할 것을 다짐한다. 곧이어 영국 국왕 조지 3세가 군대를 파병하며 본격적인 전쟁이 시작되고, 미국군 총사령관 조지 워싱턴은 병사의 사기가 떨어질대로 떨어지고 무기와 전략 모든 면에서 밀리는 상황에 참모가 필요함을 느낀다. 이때 버가 나서 오른팔이 되기를 청하지만, 워싱턴은 그 대신 해밀턴을 택하는데...

당연한 것이 당연하지 않았던 그때, 자유와 평등을 위해 목숨을 걸고 싸웠던 흑인 여성 해리엇 터브먼의 실화를 담았다. 해리엇은 미국 남부 메릴랜드에서 노예의 딸로 태어나 북부 필라델피아로 탈출했다. 그녀는 노예들의 탈출을 돕는 조직 ‘지하철로’에서 길을 인도하는 ‘차장’으로 활동하며 약 70여 명의 노예들을 자유로 이끌었고, 남북전쟁에 종군하여 콤바히 강 작전에서 750여 명의 노예들을 구출하기도 했다. "자유가 아니면 죽음을 달라."라는 그들의 외침은 즉 살아가는 것과 자유로운 것이 같다는 의미였다. 하지만 그녀는 살아 있음에도 불구하고 자유롭지 못했고, 불평등에 대한 의문은 행동을 위한 의지가 되었다. 영화는 상처받은 영혼이었던 해리엇이 다른 동료들과 연대하며 강인한 지도자로 변모하는 과정에 집중한다.

아프리카계 미국인인 헨리에타 랙스의 세포들은 첫번째 불멸의 인간 세포계를 만드는 데 사용되었다. 그녀의 딸인 데보라 랙스(오프라 윈프리)의 시선을 통해서 결코 알지 못했던 어머니에 관한 사실들을 알게 되고 어떻게 1951년 랙스의 공인되지 않은 다량의 암세포들이 전례없는 의학적인 돌파구를 마련했고 의학의 모습과 무수히 많은 삶을 영원히 변화시켯는지 이야기한다.

Tenor Jonas Kaufmann is riveting as the title character of Gounod’s popular opera, seen in this Live in HD presentation of Des McAnuff’s thrilling 2011 production that places the mythical and timeless story in an early 20th-century setting. René Pape as Méphistophélès is menacing and elegant in equal measure, and Marina Poplavskaya delivers a searingly intense portrayal of the innocent Marguerite. Russell Braun as her brother, Valentin, shines in his Act II aria. On the podium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin brings out all the lyricism and drama of Gounod’s score.

Memphis is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s: the seedy nightclubs, radio stations and recording studios of the musically-rich Tennessee city. With an original score, it tells the fictional story of DJ Huey Calhoun, a good ole' local boy with a passion for R&B music and Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming black singer that he meets one fateful night on Beale Street. Despite the objections of their loved ones (Huey's close-minded mama and Felicia's cautious brother, a club owner), they embark on a dangerous affair. As their careers rise, the relationship is challenged by personal ambition and the pressures of an outside world unable to accept their love. Originally shown in select theatres, then broadcast as an episode of the PBS series "Great Performances" (season 39, episode 11).

Elaine Stritch At Liberty is an autobiographical one-woman show written by Elaine Stritch and John Lahr. The show consists of spoken monologues from Stritch following her life and career, interspersed with showtunes and pop standards which compliment her stories. Many of these songs had been originated by Stritch in major Broadway productions, such as "The Ladies Who Lunch" from Company and "Civilization" from Angel In The Wings. Her experiences and relationship with show business are focal points, but she also explores more intimate, personal themes like her alcoholism and romantic relationships.
