She hasn't seen him in years, and does not know why they are calling her. When she finally gets to the hospital and discovers that her father is suffering from vascular dementia, she finds herself faced with the task of caring for a man who is more a stranger than a father to her.

루이스는 아픈 딸 알리시아가 일본 텔레비전 프로그램의 주인공인‘ 마법소녀 유키코’가 입는 드레스를 생일선물로 받고 싶어한다는 것을 알게 된다. 그는 딸의 소원을 들어주기 위해 고군분투하던 과정에서 정신적으로 불안한 부유층 여성과 어두운 과거를 지닌 교사를 만나게 되고, 그들의 삶을 영원히 뒤흔들 엄청난 사건에 말려든다. 이 영화는 돈 때문에 벌어지는 비극을 중심에 둔다. 돈 없는 아버지가 곧 죽을 수도 있는 딸의 소원을 들어주기 위해 한 여자에게서 돈을 뜯어내면서 모든 문제가 발생하기 때문이다. 그래서인지 그 아버지에 대해서보다 그가 속한 사회에 대해 더 분노하게 된다. 현대 스페인 사회에 닥친 경제 위기와 그로 인한 비인간화를 간접적으로 담고 있으며, 차가운 화면 톤과 인물들의 차분하고 절제된 음성으로 인해 전체적으로 무채색의 인상을 풍기는 작품이다. 안정된 화면구성이 돋보이는 올해 스페인 최고의 화제작으로, 프롤로그로 기능하는 첫 시퀀스는 마지막 장면에서 진의를 드러낸다.
