Nana is on the verge of her 30th birthday and has been feeling anxious about her love life and job. When she returns home one day, Nana is suddenly taken captive by three masked bank robbers who are on the run. Nana determines her life is over, but notices there is something odd about this band of thieves.

A police officer and her younger sister visit a ryokan located deep in the mountain that features a nearby hot spring that is known for its healing qualities. But ... the ryokan is a den for vampires.

A high school student has decided to go to Tokyo once she graduates. One day, her older sister Sumire comes back home with her daughter, who will eventually ran away from home for love

The murder of a young girl leaves the inhabitants of a small Japanese village in shock. The body of Emili is found by four classmates with whom she was playing. The murder is never solved. Emili's mother, Asako, is torn by grief and puts a curse on the four girls when they claim not to remember the killer's face. Each of the girls, in their own way, will do penance for their silence.

This horror anthology is featuring nine independent episodes, each 30 minutes long, that are revolving around bad karma and terror.

극심한 사회혼란을 겪고 있는 일본. 학급붕괴와 범죄에 노출된 청소년들을 강력한 생존 능력의 소유자로 만들기 신세기교육개혁법(BR법)이 공표된다. BR 법은 전국의 중학교 3학년 중에서 매년 한 학급을 행동범위가 제한된 일반인이 없는 장소에 이송하여 지도와 일정의 음식, 그리고 여러 가지 무기를 나눠 주고, 마지막 한 사람이 남을 때까지 서로 죽이게 한다는 법률. 제한 시간 3일 동안 위법 행위에 구애받지 않고 서로를 죽여야 한다. 수학여행을 위장하여 무인도에 도착한 학생들은 마치 게임처럼 진행되는 상황에 경악하지만, 생존을 위해 결국 서로의 목숨을 빼앗기 시작한다.

14살 때 교통사고를 당해 10년 동안 혼수상태에 빠져있던 요시이(니시지마 히데토시)는 어느 날 갑자기 기적적으로 깨어난다. 10년이라는 세월 동안 그의 가족은 뿔뿔이 흩어져버렸고, 깨어난 그를 찾아온 사람은 가해자와 아버지의 친구인 후지모리(야쿠쇼 코지)뿐이다. 요시이는 후지모리의 도움을 받아 새로운 생활을 시작하게 된다. 하지만 그가 진정으로 바라는 것은 사고 전처럼 온가족이 함께 모여 화목하게 사는 것이다. 소식을 들은 가족들이 하나둘씩 그를 찾아와 곁에 머무르지만, 잃어버린 10년은 쉽게 회복되지 않는다. 시간을 잃어버린 청년이 느끼는 존재에 대한 불안감을 절제된 롱테이크와 롱쇼트로 표현해냄으로써, 손쉬운 감동보다는 적극적인 사유를 요구하는 작품. 극적인 소재를 다루면서도 오히려 특별한 사건이 일어나지 않는 일상을 무덤덤하고 담담하게 그려내고 있다. 1999년 베를린영화제 출품작. 이 작품은 감동보다는 사유를 요구하는 구로사와 감독의 의지를 드러낸다. 다작을 생산하는 감독으로 알려진 그는 독특한 작가성을 인정받고 있는 반면, 계속되는 실험 지향적 성향을 우려하는 목소리도 적지 않다.
