워싱턴 DC행 비행기에 탑승한 FBI 요원 그레첸 블레어는 자신의 창가 좌석을 선점한 남자랑 시비가 붙었고, 노련한 승무원은 그레첸을 일등석 좌석으로 옮겨준다. 옆자리의 테리는 이 비행기가 곧 납치될 거라며 비행기에서 내릴 때까지 자신을 무사히 지켜주면 5천만 달러를 주겠다고 제안한다. 그 말을 들은 그레첸은 헛소리라고 여겼지만, 화장실을 다녀와 보니 테리는 자리에 없고 다른 승객이 호출해도 승무원이 오지 않는다. 그러다가 승무원의 시체를 발견한 그레첸은 항공보안요원인 루크에게 이 사실을 알리고 테리를 찾아 나선다.
