주인공인 지오반니노는 괴팍한 아버지 때문에 어머니가 도망간 불우한 가정에서 살며 패션 디자이너를 꿈꾸는데, 아버지는 계속해서 학교를 그만두라고 하며 다른 여자와 노는 모습을 보인다. 지오반니노는 낮에는 그런 아버지의 말을 듣는 척하고 가축 일을 돕지만 밤이 되고 모두가 잠이 들면 자신의 꿈인 패션 디자이너가 되기 위해 몰래 옷을 만든다. 몰래 학교 발표회도 나가고 지역 행사도 나가면서 자신의 꿈을 이루기 위해 노력을 하던 어느 날, 아버지와 친구들이 술을 마시며 하는 이야기를 듣게 된다.

After a period of chaos, this small world gradually discovers that unity makes strength.
