트랜스니스트라는 옛 소련의 유산으로 만들어진 자치공화국이다. UN의 기준에선 몰도바의 일부이지만 러시아, 몰도바, 트랜스니스트라 3자가 공동위원회를 구성해 독자적 정부를 만들었다. 이런 정치적 배경과 트랜스니스트라라는 제목만 놓고 국제정치 문제를 다룬 영화처럼 보이지만 전혀 그렇지 않다. 트랜스니스트라는 이런 환경에 살고 있는 10대의 아름다운 모습을 그린 서정적 다큐멘터리다. 영화는 우선 소녀 타냐와 그녀를 좋아하는 소년들의 아름다운 한 때에 초점을 맞춘다.
