라스베이거스 무명가수인 랄프가 영국 왕실의 손자라는 사실이 밝혀지고, 국왕이 되면서 일어나는 해프닝을 그린 영국 코미디영화. 어설픈 듯하면서도 진실함이 물씬 풍기는 존 굿맨의 연기가 영화를 단순히 슬랩스틱 코미디에서 벗어나게 만든다. 원작은 엠린 윌리엄스의 소설 'Headlong'. 영국 왕실이 기념촬영을 하다가 감전으로 전원 사망한다는 사실부터가 상당히 코믹한(?) 발상이고, 결국은 왕실의 안락보다 사랑을 찾아 떠난다는 점에서 '아나스타샤'를 떠올리게 한다.

Slipstream is a 1989 post-apocalyptic science fiction adventure film. The plot has an emphasis on aviation and contains many common science-fiction themes, such as taking place in a dystopian future in which the landscape of the Earth itself has been changed and is windswept by storms of great power. There are also numerous sub-plots, such as free will and humanity amongst artificial intelligence.

A robot messenger is sent to earth to appeal to humans to live in peace. Originally designed to go to MIT, by mistake she ends up in Amman, Jordan during the Black September riots of 1970. Sullivan, a British journalist, comes to her aid when she is found wandering without papers following a bombing and grants her refuge in his hotel room. But there she tells him she is a robot, sent as a peace envoy from another planet. He is not sure whether to believe her story or not, but finds her unusual view of the world appealing. They examine the human condition in a series of incredibly insightful and entertaining conversations.

Rita and Sue are two teenagers living on a run-down council estate in Bradford, who both share a job babysitting for Bob and Michelle's children. Whilst giving them a lift home one night, Bob decides to take Rita and Sue up to a deserted, country-side landscape. Clearly knowing what he has in mind, Rita and Sue are only too happy to oblige and both have a sexual encounter with him that becomes a regular occurrence.

펑크밴드에서 만난 시드와 낸시, 이 당시의 펑크밴드는 기존의 질서에 반기를 들고 나선 저항적인 성격이 매우 강했다. 이들 두 연인에게 전통이나 과거는 통하지 않고 오직 반기와 저항만이 가득한다. 이런 문화 속에서 만난 두사람은 일반인들에게는 비정상적으로 보이는 사랑을 나눈다. 시드와 낸시의 사랑은 절망적이고 격렬해서, 결국 78년 뉴욕의 첼리사 호텔에서 운명의 막을 내린다. 헤로인에 중독된 이들은 호텔에서 시드가 낸시를 살해함으로써 국제적인 뉴스가 되었다. 시드는 그룹 섹스 피스톨즈의 베이시스트였다.

필립 박사(Dr. Steven Phillip: 테렌스 스탭프 분)는 유인원으로부터 인류의 진화과정을 연구하고 있었다. 그 연구를 돕기 위해 별장으로 온 조수 제인(Jane Chase: 엘리자베스 슈 분)은 식사 시중을 드는 링크라는 신기한 원숭이를 알게 된다. 그러던 어느 날, 며칠 째 두문불출하는 박사를 만나기위해 연구실로 들어갔던 제인은 깜짝 놀라고 만다. 박사는 흔적도 없고 실험 중이던 원숭이는 죽어 있었으며 컴퓨터에는 박사의 가짜 목소리가 녹음되어 있었다. 제인은 대단한 힘과 지능을 가진 링크에게서 공포를 느끼기 시작하는데...
