Chris Martin has a problem: his impending marriage. Like any other man about to enter into the holy vows of matrimony, Chris has begun to second guess himself. Is married life what he really wants? While his bride-to-be takes care of the wedding plans, Chris returns to the neighborhood of his youth to consider his married future and to spend one last week of bachelorhood with his four high school buddies: Ray, Ash, Todd and Sean. Together, the reunited "Five Aces" enjoy a funny bittersweet week reminiscing about a time when they had all the answers... only nothing turned out the way they planned. An up and coming lawyer gets turned over for a case he'd been working on for a long while. The D.A.'s niece then decides to help the young lawyer by first blackmailing, then eventually plotting the murder of the D.A., all the while seducing the young attorney. It then becomes the attorney job to cover up the murder he believes he committed, while finding out the truth about the D.A.'s "niece".
LA에서 미술을 공부하는 중국계 미국인 대학생 제이크(브랜던 리)는 미군 정보 장교로 중국에 파견된 아버지가 천안문 사태에 휘말려 시위 대원을 구하려다 자신의 눈 앞에서 탱크에 깔려 숨진다. 그후 미국으로 돌아온 제이크는 중국 인권을 위한 시위 등 정치 활동과는 담을 쌓고 산다. 어느 날 여자 친구의 약속 장소에 중국인 친구들이 모여있는데, 총성과 함께 제이크는 마약 상인 마피아 보스 세라노(닉 맨쿠소)가 중국인 마약 중개상 두목인 타우(트지 마)의 부하 창을 총으로 살해하는 장면을 목격한다. 무예로 달련된 그는 총격과 격투의 수라장 속에서 헤집고 나와 결국 출동한 경찰에 체포된다. FBI가 그를 심문하고 그가 세라노의 살인 장면을 목격한 증인이 된다. 세라노는 최근 15년간 한법도 직접 살인을 한 적이 없어 법망을 교묘히 피해왔다. 이제 세라노가 그를 없애기 위해 혈안이 되어있을 것임을 강조하며 협조할 것을 반강제로 요구한다. 증언을 위해 시카고로 옮겨진 제이크는 세라노에 매수된 FBI 요원들에게 죽음을 당할뻔 하나 격투 끝에 빠져나오지만 FBI 요원이 사살한 경관 살해 누명을 쓰고, 경찰과 마약상한테까지 쫓기는 몸이 되는데...

독신 생활을 즐기는 로스엔젤레스 형사 죠에게 어느날 엄마 투티가 강아지 한마리를 데리고 아들을 방문하면서 그의 일상 균형은 깨진다. 어머니의 간섭은 마침내 위험 수치을 넘어 죠의 소총을 세척제로 닦아 못쓰게 만들게 된다. 아들의 난감한 모습에 새총을 사주기로 마음먹은 어머니는 불법으로 총을 사게 되고 우연히 봉고를 몰고다니며 살인을 하는 강도떼들을 목격하게 된다. 이러한 사실에 직면한 아들과 어머니는 사건해결에 동참 아닌 동참을 하게 되어 여러가지의 위험에 직면하게 된다. 죠는 엄마의 외출을 금지시키지만 기회를 이용하여 죠가 일하는 경찰서를 방문, 죠의 애인이며 상사인 여형사 반장 그웬을 만나 죠의 어렸을 때의 이야기를 해주는 등 두 사람의 서먹서먹한 관계를 확실히 해준다. 더욱이 그러한 상황속에서도 엄마는 노인의 지혜를 발휘하여, 죽음 직전의 형사 아들 생명을 구해내기까지 하면서 사건 해결에 한몫을 단단히 하게 된다. 그뿐아니라 아들의 사랑 문제까지 해결해주는 멋진 엄마이다. 평범하면서도 용감하고, 적재 적시에 기지를 발휘할 줄 아는 다정다감한 어머니와 우직한 아들이 엮어내는 엄마는 관객들로 하여금 어머니에 대한 공감을 갖게하는 액션 코믹 영화이다.
