천여년의 역사를 지닌 도굴단체 '무금교위'의 82대 제자 후바이(천쿤), 왕카이슈안(황보), 셜리(서기)는 고분을 도굴하던 중 설명하기 힘든 환영을 보게 되고 이를 계기로 손을 씻게 된다. 뉴욕으로 떠나온 이들은 한 글로벌 광산회사로부터 중국의 '어떤 무덤'을 발굴해달라는 제안을 받는다. 거금에 혹해 홀로 중국으로 떠난 왕카이슈안은 '피안화' 석판을 발견하게 되고 후바이와 셜리에게 알린다.
