이제 막 중학교를 졸업한 평범한 소녀 리지 맥과이어. 고등학교 입학 전 2주간의 로마 답사를 떠난 리지는 그곳에서 이탈리아 최고의 듀오 팝가수 '파울로와 이사벨라'의 파울로를 만나게 된다. 파울로는 자신의 잠적한 파트너 이사벨라와 리지가 닮았다는 것을 알고, 리지에게 이사벨라를 대신에 자신과 함께 무대에 서 달라고 부탁한다. 로마에서 멋진 경험을 하게 된 리지는 겁은 나지만 선생님에게 거짓말을 하면서까지 잘 생기고, 매너 좋은 파울로와 로마를 돌아다니면서 꿈 같은 시간을 보낸다. 드디어 리지와 파울로가 무대에 서는 날. 그런데 진짜 이사벨라가 리지 앞에 나타나고, 과연 리지는 무대에 설 수 있을까?
