시나리오 작가 팀 토드와 브루스에게 성공을 거둘 마지막 기회가 온다. 제대로 된 공포영화 극본을 완성한다면 토드의 삼촌으로부터 영화 제작을 약속 받은 것이다. 하지만 그들에게 주어진 기한은 2주. 둘은 자연으로 둘러싸인 산장 '샹그릴라'로 향하고, 그곳에 숙박 중인 예술가들로부터 영감을 받아 시나리오를 쓰려 한다. 하지만 투숙객들이 한 명씩 죽어나가기 시작하자 모두 겁을 먹는다. 그 와중 브루스는 그 공포스러운 분위기가 글쓰기에 도움이 될 거라며 토드를 설득하고, 둘은 샹그릴라에 며칠을 더 묵기로 한다. 그러나 곧 모두가 자신의 목숨을 지키기 위해 싸우게 되는데...
