Mutsutoshi Ôta

A delicate study of the relationship between two disillusioned young people, shot in atmospheric monochrome among Tokyo's decaying lumberyards and the inhospitable snowscapes of the north.

A civic music group, created by Tsukasa Nitta, a high school teacher in Koriyama City, and Akiko Watanabe, the daughter of a record shop and teacher of a music class, invites Takuro Yoshida to Koriyama City to hold a concert. He then starts being harassed by the Hashimoto group, a local gangster group which manages the city's entertainment.

가난한 로닌 겐고베이는 유명한 게이샤 고만에게 반한다. 주군의 복수를 이루고 명예를 찾아야 하는 겐고베이는 고만이 빚 때문에 팔려갈 상황에 처했음을 알고는 돈을 주지만, 곧 고만과 그 남편의 음모를 깨닫는다. <장미의 행렬>로 알려진 다큐멘터리 출신 작가 마츠모토 토시오의 또 다른 걸작이다.

쾌활한 성격의 고등학생 지로는 불의를 참지 못하는 성격이다. 지로는 야쿠자들이 동네 상인들을 괴롭히는 것을 보고 친구인 요시오와 함께 싸워 야쿠자를 쫓아낸다. 하지만 요시오가 야쿠자의 꼬임에 빠져들고, 동네 상인들은 지로에게 야쿠자와 계속 싸워줄 것을 부탁하자 지로는 곤란한 입장에 처한다.
