Spring 1945, Heinrich Zwygart, Swiss ambassador to Germany flees bombed-out Berlin after eight years of service in the capital of the Reich. This is the end of a terrible mandate, during which he had to make fatal compromises to preserve the neutrality and security of his country. He went through the war, but will he survive the peace?

Theo and Louis, two gay gentlemen, embark on a train journey to Paxmal. They are carrying an urn - it is the last journey for a friend. On their way deep into the Swiss Alps the two men, struggling with their fate, meet various people. While some of these people remind Theo and Louis again of the beautiful things in life, others confront them with ghosts from the past.

취르허 형제는 전작에서 벗어나기보다 변주하는 쪽을 택했다. 사람들은 좁은 실내를 오가고, 소리는 곁을 맴돌고, 아이와 고양이와 개는 물끄러미 바라보고, 한두 가지의 멜로디가 반복해서 삽입된다. 그리고 사물은 무심한 흔적을 남긴다. 정서의 흐름과 그곳에서 발생하는 감각으로 이루어진 영화의 달라진 점이 있다면, 가족에서 멜로로의 변화다. 어긋난 감정의 교류가 인물을 묶는다. 각자의 기억은 어떤 파장도 일으키지 못하고, 부질없는 응시는 상처를 입는다. 시선끼리 벌이는 전쟁에 승자는 없다. 그저 습관처럼 공유했던 공간, 거미가 떠난 거미줄처럼 공간만이 모든 걸 기억하는 무덤으로 남는다. 감독은 그걸 ‘일상의 신화’라 했다. 영화를 본 뒤, ‘디자이어리스’의 「보야지, 보야지」가 예전과 달리 들리지 싶다.

Franco, an elderly man, lives his life in serenity together with his wife Margherita. The arrival of his brother Vittorio, with whom he hasn’t talked in years, breaks the calm. Up until the middle of the 19Th century, poverty stricken mountain farmers from the Ticino area of Switzerland frequently sold their children to Milan as chimney sweeps or spazzacamini. That is also young Giorgios fate. He is forced to climb through pitch black chimneys, flinging down the soot with his bare hands. But he does not lose heart. Together with his buddies sharing in the same misery, he establishes the association of Black Brothers. They stick together, struggling against their penury and getting involved in fights with the street gangs of Milan. The film tells of the gripping adventures of the chimney sweep boys and their spectacular escape back to their native land.

The 27 year-old Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi walked from Romania to Paris in 1903 and 1904 as a preparation and prelude to becoming the most important sculptor of the 20th century. Brancusi leaves his small village of Hobitza, south of the Carpathian Mountains and walks through Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and parts of France to arrive in Paris, the metropolis of world culture for the first three decades of the 1900s. He walks in spring, summer, winter and autumn, treading the landscape away from the beaten track, experiencing sights, having adventures, suffering hardships, looking, touching and feeling the world as a preparation of what is to come for him.
