The life and trials of You Tianming, a young suona apprentice who forms his own suona troupe at a time when the traditions of suona music are declining in Chinese society.
Set in the late 1950s, after Japan's devastating occupation in China, RED GRASS SAND is an involving look at one man's need for power. The film begins in 1941, when Commander Dor, of the Chinese Army, collects donations from his people and decides to keep the donations and burying them at Red Beach. He returns 15 years later with plans of returning to power, only to find its current inhabitants to be more than a little hostile.
Young Carpenter Xia
도시에서 사업을 하는 위셩(순홍레이)은 평생을 산골 마을의 유일한 선생님으로 살았던 아버지의 부음을 전해 듣고 집으로 향한다. 위셩은 이젠 아무도 따르지 않는 전통 장례를 고집하는 어머니를 보며 부모의 첫 만남을 회상한다. 40년전 위셩의 어머니 쟈오 디(장쯔이)는 마을로 부임온 젊은 선생님 창위(쩡 하오)에게 첫 눈에 반한다. 쟈오 디는 창위가 지나다니는 길가를 서성이며 그와의 만남을 기다린다. 그러나 “정월이 되기 전에 돌아온다”는 말과 함께 도시로 떠난 창위는 돌아올 줄 모르고 쟈오 디에게 남은 것은 머리핀과 그녀가 음식을 담아주던 깨진 그릇 뿐이다. 그녀는 창위가 약속한 날 마을 어귀에서 눈보라를 맞으며 하염없이 그를 기다리는데...
