1978년 이란에 있는 작은 마을 잘라바의 주민들은 그들 사이에 악마가 있다고 진술한다. 이 진술을 조사하고 있는 어린 헌병대 병장 마수드는 마을의 악마를 제거하려고 하는 퇴마사를 만난다. 사기 혐의로 퇴마사를 체포하자, 마을 사람들의 두려움과 공포는 고조된다. 마수드와 정부의 의사인 그의 연인은 그 둘 이 악마에게 홀렸다고 믿는 마을 사람들에 둘러싸여 저주받은 집에 갇힌다.
