The film’s story is based on Swedish author Alex Schulman’s successful novel of the same name, and is inspired by true events. It revolves around Karin Stolpe’s complex relationship with her husband Sven Stolpe and her passionate love affair with Olof Lagercrantz which starts in the 1930s. The film shows the impact of passion, jealousy and anger across 70 years, involving different generations.

넬리는 가을 방학을 보낼 한니발 삼촌네가 별 재미가 없을 것 같아 심통이 났다. 그런데 웬걸? 조용한 교외에 사는 평범한 아저씨인 줄 알았던 한니발 삼촌이 몬스터 고스트, 뱀파이어 같은 온갖 신기한 존재들을 원래 있어야 할 곳으로 돌려보내는 에이전트였다니! 그런데, 잠깐! 몬스터들이 원래 있어야 할 곳이란 게 원래 따로 있었나? 알고 보니 우리 주변에 조용히 숨어 지내던 몬스터들을 굳이 찾아내서 끌고 가고, 잡아들여 비싼 돈 받고 성형시키는 게 옳은 일일까? 더구나 쿠키 잘 굽는 프랑켄슈타이너랑은 막 절친이 되었는데 뭐가 문제지? 부당한 건 못 참는 넬리가 친구들을 지키기 위해 나선다. 세이브더칠드런과 함께 춘천영화제는 넬리와 몬스터 친구들의 판타스틱한 활약을 통해 아동권리 문제를 짚어본다. 멀티플렉스 시대가 열리기 전, 원주의 극장가를 이루었던 영화관들이 다 사라지고 단관 극장으로서는 끝까지 남아있던 아카데미 극장이 마지막 상영을 하던 날을 재현한 이 영화는 극장이란 영화를 함께 한 모든 사람의 공동 자산이자 추억을 담고 나누는 교감의 공간이라는 것을 일깨운다. 이런 공감을 이끌어낸 아카데미 극장은 마침내 보존되게 되었다. (이안)
